December 2010
Game on for Puyallup

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics’ Puyallup facility (Washington, USA) has recently won a new market. Attracted by its expertise in the field of aesthetic and high-quality thermoformed parts, Aristocrat Technologies (ATI) contacted the site to produce the plastic cabinet frame for its gaming machines.

The Puyallup site now takes care of the co-development, engineering and manufacturing of frames which are then painted to look like the chrome of old-style machines. The advantage of plastic is it lets through the LED lighting installed inside the machine and programmed to interact with the game. Since the first prototype was ordered in April 2010, this new market is growing fast.

Puyallup is part of the Aerospace Business Unit which is thus diversifying its applications, and extending its know-how to other fields. “Thermoforming is an ideal fit for customers that require large components combined with relatively low capital investments and production volumes”, explains Greg Sallee, Business Manager Aerospace, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. “We will leverage our existing manufacturing know-how and capabilities to enter into new markets and applications.” A promising program!
